Gas engine Mobil Pegasus sellsheet

Situation

Increased carbon deposits were observed on the pistons, cylinder heads and combustion chamber surfaces of Waukesha Series VHP L7042GL Waukesha pumping units, which are commonly installed in natural gas mines in Załecze and Wilków (Zielona Góra branch). Lubricated with high quality mineral oils, these units were operating in harsh conditions. The increased carbon deposits were causing piston-valve interference, which required frequent service. Also, overhaul oil drain intervals were shorter than recommended by the engine manufacturer.

Recommendation

The previously used mineral oil was replaced by Mobil Pegasus™ 1 synthetic gas engine oil in an effort to reduce carbon deposits due to the product’s synthetic base oil formulation and its balanced additive system, which is designed to significantly improve oxidation resistance.

Result

Mobil Pegasus 1 synthetic gas engine oil allowed the mines to achieve all of their operations and maintenance expectations. Important benefits included oil change intervals that tripled from 1,500 hours to 4,500 hours. The longer oil change interval for the synthetic gas engine oil was determined using test results from the SignumSM Oil Analysis program, now offered as Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis. The estimated savings within the pumping department is expected to reach an estimated US $150,000 over a 3-year period. Mobil Pegasus 1 synthetic gas engine oil is recommended by the user for all of their Waukesha Series VHP L7042GL pump gas engines.
